Shades of Mercy: A Porter Beck Mystery

In the normally quiet Nevada high desert, Sheriff Porter Beck faces one of his toughest challenges—a series of strange, deadly events with unknown origins.

Beck, who followed in his father’s footsteps as sheriff, oversees a small twelve-person department covering a vast area that’s usually peaceful—until now. One of his childhood friends has died from a powerful new opioid, and another, a wealthy rancher, has been attacked by a hacked military drone. The hacker seems to be local and even calls Beck out by name, making it his responsibility to solve.

His search leads him to Mercy Vaughn, a teenage hacker currently held without computer access in a secure juvenile facility. Something about her doesn’t add up, and when she suddenly disappears, Beck realizes she’s in grave danger—and time is running out for everyone.
