Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books: A Novel

In the small town of Troy, Georgia, lifelong rivals Beverly Underwood and Lula Dean find themselves at odds once again. Beverly serves on the school board, while Lula has become a self-righteous crusader determined to purge the town’s libraries of “inappropriate” books—most of which she’s never read. To replace them, Lula creates her own little lending library filled with what she deems morally proper literature.

But when a mischievous local secretly swaps Lula’s approved books for banned ones—classics, queer romances, Black history, witchcraft guides, and more—the townspeople begin to discover new perspectives and transform in surprising ways. As Beverly and Lula face off in a heated mayoral race, the truth about the library comes to light, igniting chaos, revelations, and lasting change throughout the community.
